Continuous production technology of oxidized wax through non-catalytic oxidation of Fischer-Tropsch wax

This technology adopts refined Fischer-Tropsch wax from the 200,000 tons/year Fischer-Tropsch wax plant of Ningmei Fine Chemical Company as raw material to produce oxidized wax. It overcomes the bottlenecks of traditional processes, including dark product color, non-separable catalyst, safety risks of oxygen process, and unstable product quality.

By adopting a self-designed dedicated modular oxidation reactor and independently developed catalyst-free continuous air oxidation process, it realizes the continuous oxidation of various grades of Fischer-Tropsch wax with air as the oxidant without adding any catalyst, forming a complete set of catalyst-free continuous air oxidation technology with independent intellectual property rights.
A 100-ton-class pilot plant for continuous air oxidation of Fischer-Tropsch wax was completed and put into operation in May 2023. The pilot plant operates stably and successfully produces qualified oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax products, laying a solid foundation for industrial scale-up.
The application of this technology enables the leapfrog development of Fischer-Tropsch wax into high-end application fields, extends the downstream industrial chain of coal indirect liquefaction, enriches product categories, improves product added value and market competitiveness, and promotes the high-end, differentiated and high-value development of coal-based Fischer-Tropsch wax products.

Product Applications

After oxidative modification, polar groups such as -OH, -COOH, -C=O and -COOR are added to the molecular structure of Fischer-Tropsch wax. This endows oxidized wax with excellent emulsifiability, pigment dispersibility, lubricity and oil solubility.
It is widely used in PVC processing, wood-based panels, automotive industry, papermaking, agriculture, textile, plastic processing, pigment dispersion and other fields.
The oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax produced by this technology is free of sulfur, nitrogen and aromatic hydrocarbons, making it more environmentally friendly than petroleum-based products. Its quality is superior to domestic petroleum-based oxidized waxes and meets the technical indicators of oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax from South Africa’s Sasol.
